George Strait - "Living For The Night"

While hundreds of singers have come and gone in the last 30 years, George Strait continues to not only record material but he remains one of country music’s biggest stars, as his plethora of chart-topping hits (57 and counting) suggests. He also was recently named the Artist of the Decade for this decade, something he easily could’ve been called the previous two decades as well. With his Troubadour album now finished releasing singles, George presents his lead single from his upcoming “Twang” album, “Living For The Night" (Listen here)
This single is different than all of George’s previous singles because he co-wrote it with his son Bubba (George Strait, Jr.) and Dean Dillon. “Living For The Night” sounds like a classic after one listen with classic guitar leads and steel guitar moans leading the way as strings lay softly behind George’s vocal about the loss of someone that he loved. Rather than face the day, he continues to live for the night of hanging out in a bar where he can drown his sorrows. Given that George and his wife Norma lost their daughter Jennifer many years ago in a terrible car accident, it's not a stretch to think that the idea for this song has lingered in George's mind for years.
While this single is bound to become a big hit regardless of whether it’s actually a good song or not, “Living For The Night” is one of the best songs that George’s released this past year and it leaves me hopeful that “Twang” may be one of 2009’s best albums.
Song written by George Strait, Bubba Strait and Dean Dillon.

While I have always respected George Strait for his accomplishments in country music, I've never been that big of a fan. BUT>>>>Living For The Night will be one of my all time favorite songs from any genre!!!

King of country music? That's a little too much for me. This is one of the best songs (if not THE best) George Strait has released. I've always been a big fan, but the title King George rightfully belongs to George Jones. Like Waylon said, "If we all sang like we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones."

I heard it for the first time on the radio as I pulled into my drive way. I knew instinctively that was George. I stayed in my car until the song was over. What a beautiful song?

This song is possibly the most beautiful song George has ever done. I am a student of music and George has consistently produced the most wonderful music ever played. In this high stress life we live, he brings back a little calm and peace. He is a true american legend, and deserves to be played on the radio forever. Other artists can only try to be him, but never can match the mild manner and style he portrays. The southern accent he has is all but lost in most other country singers. What is happening to our heritage as southerners and americans. All of radio is starting to sound like Hollywood. We are losing our identity and our music. George will be a role model for my children and grandchildren, along with good old Chris Ledoux and Roy Rogers. These men are timeless heroes that always have embodied true american values and will. God bless King George.

This song will probably end up being his 58th number one hit (the article is a little wrong). I do agree that this song could be about his daughter however he also recently (about one month ago) lost his brother. It is a beautiful song by the best singer of all time.

I have to agree with everyone else, George Strait IS the King of Country and his music has always covered Life: Love, Heartache, Family, Loss, happiness; etc. This is a beautiful song that I can truly relate to, just like many of his songs from his early years! :)

Rick, WTF are you a complete idot? George Strait is and will remain the KING of country music. He has remained a steady and constant reminder of what country music is supposed to be for the past 28 years. If you want to listen to zippy music maybe you should pop in a Brittney Spears CD. Country music is about life, love, loss... and George brings it all to the table. The new single is one of the best I've ever heard. It takes me back to the George of the 80's. The new "Pop" flavored country just dosen't do it for this southern girl. George can keep on knockin' em out... I'll be here hanging on every note!

Excuse me George Strait has the most beautiful voice of any country artist. You just don't have any taste. GEORGE IS KING. YOU JUST TRY AND HAVE AS MUCH CLASS AS HE.

Wow, they really should have named this song "Sleeping Through The Night" as that is the effect most of George Strait's music has on me! I preferred his incarnation as "Dusty" in "Pure Country" as his music had a bit more zip than usual.
