Fast Ryde - "That Thang"
By: Bobby Peacock

Oh look, it's another ode to a female butt. Or as it's called here, "that thang, da dang dang dang, da dang dang dang, da dang dang dang"… et cetera.
Okay, really, "That Thang", the debut single for Republic Nashville duo Fast Ryde, really isn't a bad song. The melody isn't anything out of the ordinary, but it has a crisp, in-your-face production that actually rocks harder than its partner-in-pants "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk". Just like "Badonkadonk", it's really dumb (in a good way), and maybe a little sexist (okay, maybe a lot sexist), but if you happened to be one of the few people that liked "Badonkadonk", you might like this one too. Go on, don't be ashamed; you were shaking your "thang" right along with it, weren't you. I hope your curtains were closed.
Yes, it's about as country as… well, pick just about any hip-hop song about the ladies, ever. After the chorus, I was almost expecting the lead singer to burst into rap. Yes, the "Da dang dang dang" chorus ("da doing doing doing" also comes into play near the end) is a little weird, but not terribly intrusive. Yes, some might argue whether this song should even be on the same continent as George Strait, much less the same singles chart. But taken at face value, it's just a silly little piece of ear candy that sounds just fine blaring from your speakers on the hottest day of the year.

Hmmm...they look pretty young. They don't appear to be trying hard to do anything. Is it possible they actually are hip, trendy, etc? BTW...I love this song. I hear it everyday on the radio. Jenny

I agree with Lisa Jeffries. Hard-core posers belong in rap.

Eh, pair the "Ryde" portion of the name with a cheesey song and it all strikes me as trying too hard to be hip, trendy, etc. (one of the reasons I've long since abandoned hip hip). All disappointing really.
