My, how things change. In the 14 years years since Hootie & The Blowfish outsold Boston's own, with their record-breaking, album of singles, Darius Rucker has evolved into an unlikely Country star. Still a hat-clad Miami Dolphins toasting singer, Rucker carried his skills with him. On "It Won't Be Like This For Long," Rucker's butter-smooth vocals catch a Country cadence, as his balladeers a promise of improvement in a loved one - and his own life. The song is one of many strong compositions from yet another career milestone - as Darius becomes the first black singer to score a #1 in the genre since Charley Pride, 25 years ago. Not only is the song evocative, one of many from the sum of its parts, but it's a living testament to how far we've come, and how those stereotypes belong in the bargain bin.
