Country Singer Kevin Skinner Wins America's Got Talent
By: Roughstock Staff

In a development that is sure to stun many in the United States, former chicken catcher Kevin Skinner became America’s own Susan Boyle. However, instead of being the runner-up of America’s Got Talent, Kevin Skinner, a simple man with a decent country singin’ voice- won the whole dang thing. Kevin Skinner’s prize included one million dollars and the chance to be the headliner of the America’s Got Talent show in Las Vegas. The performance that got Skinner the gig was a nice, but not great, rendition of Mark Chesnutt and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.”
Unemployed when he tried out for America’s Got Talent, the Mayfield, KY native’s story resonated with an American public currently struggling to make ends meet as the economy continues to make its recovery out of a deep financial crisis. Quite simply, the reason
Kevin Skinner won WAS because he is Joe Public and not some glamorous looking young kid. Instead he was a haggard-looking everyman who sang songs like “Aways On My Mind,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and “To Make You Feel My Love.”
While it remains to be seen if Skinner will go on to score a record deal in Nashville or not, his life has certainly changed for the better thanks to the prize he won by winning 2009’s summer season of America’s Got Talent.

TO: J M says: Posted: Thursday, September 17, 2009 I live in Nashville, TN. I work in the music business here, and I was absolutely shocked that he won. It just goes to show you that more people are tone deaf than once thought. We have homeless people down at the mission and on the corners of Printers Alley that have harder life stories and sing 10 times better than this guy. Folks, he cannot carry a tune. I just don't see him being signed here by a major. But then again, maybe his fan base can be the tone deaf honky's that voted for him. Nice guy,. . .can't sing. -------------------- JM .. maybe its about time you bought some cotton buds and rid your ear of earwax .. you're the one who is tone-deaf

Kevin is about to set a record for the shortest singing career in history.I'll admit he can mimic Garth Brooks, but he doesn't have his own voice. When the Vegas show ends so will Kevin's singing career.

sounds like somebody needs to get a life. Kevin Skinner won fair and square and that's that. I wish him and his family the very best. I voted for him and would do so again. He certainly does have talent, as well as being a very humble and down-to-earth guy. God's blessings on you, Kevin! Give him a chance and stop being so negative.......

I will never watch AGT again because I can no longer take it as a serious competition in search of talent. Its a likability competition. This wasnt a 'good 'ol boy contest. If was a talent competition. He fullfill the 'underdog getting a big break' desire for everyone. But how about the years these other contestants put into perfecting their talent? And they think they are going on this legitimate show that finds truely talented people and gives them the opportunity they and their talent deserves. They must have been so disapointed. As soon as this guy had said 'I was a chicken catcher', he had already won.

Yeah, Kevin Skinner! Sure Mr. N-ville, keep diggin', when you find a simple guy that sings from the heart then you have something. I am proud that Country America saw what "true blue" was about and voted him as the winner! God Blessings to Kevin Skinner and his family!

I can't speak for everyone else, but I've been pulling for Kevin Skinner ever since I heard him do his cover on Garth Brook "If Tomorrow Never Comes". Way to go Kevin.

I don't watch the show, but the DJs on my radio station were saying the same thing this morning as the above poster. Can't carry a tune, but there are some big artist that are the same way and making a killing.
