Country Chart News - The Top 30 Digital Singles: The Week of January 9, 2012: "Take A Little Ride" Platinum, "Springsteen" Double Platinum, "Cruise" #1
By: Matt Bjorke
The post-Christmas sale rise is nearly over, settling the charts on a more ‘normal’ feel. Florida Georgia Line returns to #1 with “Cruise.”
With “Cruise” cemented as perhaps the biggest surprise of 2012, the song was the only country single to sell over 100,000 copies this week after six singles surpassed the mark last week (“Cruise” and Taylor Swift’s #2 “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” sold over 200k). The third place single this week is The Band Perry’s latest Gold-selling single “Better Dig Two.” All signs point to this future #1 Airplay single achieving a Platinum or better sales mark for the family band. Hunter Hayes’ “Wanted” is now nearly at 2.3 milllion sold, a number that suggests that the song (now a Pop/AC crossover chart hit) could surpass Triple Platinum at some point. Gary Allan’s Gold-selling “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)” is also a likely future #1 Airplay hit (It’s also Gary’s first Gold-selling single since 2007’s “Watching Airplanes.”
Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” Remains Top 10 Single.
Last week it sold over 136,000 copies and this week slides down to 59,000 sold but this is still enough for the #6 selling song of the week. Jason Aldean’s “The Only Way I Know” is 109,000 downloads away from hitting Gold while Little Big Town’s “Tornado” and Hunter Hayes’ “Somebody’s Heartbreak” (the #8 & #9 songs of the week) are right behind him on the chart and their paths to Gold. Little Big Town’s not so far away from a Double Platinum award for “Pontoon”, this week’s #10 song, making the quartet the only Country act this week with two songs in the Top 10.
Lee Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck” is the Riser of the Week.
Randy Houser’s Top 5 hit “How Country Feels,” a song with an outside shot at #1 in the next week or two (right around when his album of the same name is released by Stoney Creek Records), is nearly Gold and just outside the Top 10 this week while Kacey Musgraves’ debut single continues to run up the charts and is at #12. Lee Brice has two singles in the Top 20 including Platinum “Hard To Love” (his third platinum hit after “Love Like Crazy” and “A Woman Like You”) and rising hit, this week’s Riser of the week and the only ‘new’ song inside the Top 30 this week, “I Drive Your Truck.” The single has now sold 122,000 downloads and with all the buzz and acclaim it is getting, it isn’t likely to kill his winning Gold/Platinum certification (or Airplay #1 hit) streak. Jason Aldean’s “Take A Little Ride” has surpassed the Platinum certification mark whilst “Springsteen” from Eric Church has landed Double Platinum status this week.
Songs falling out of the Top 30 This Week:
- Dustin Lynch - “Cowboys & Angels”
New singles likely to debut next week:
- Blake Shelton - “Sure Be Cool If You Did”
