Country Album Chart News: The Week of November 27, 2013: Duck Dynasty's Duck The Halls dominates; Scotty, Jason & Taylor Return Top 10; Trace Adkins Christmas Album Returns
By: Matt Bjorke
The Robertson Family from Duck Dynasty’s new Duck The Halls album holds onto #1 for a fourth week in a row. Other Christmas Albums return to Top 10.
They have the #1 TV Show on Cable TV and a massive following so it’s not surprising that Duck Dynasty’s The Robertson Family stay at #1 for a third week with their Duck The Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas album for EMI Records Nashville. The collection of Christmas songs from the family (and guests like George Strait, Luke Bryan and Alison Krauss) sold over 60,000 copies in its fourth week (just under 9% off last week and is definitely going to be a huge holiday seller this shopping season with Deluxe editions available at Walmart (a limited-edition ZinePak and a 15 track CD (other stores get 14 tracks). The bonus track? Willie Robertson’s “Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy”), one of three songs on the collection featuring the CEO of the family’s Duck Commander business. (Review of the album is here). The rest of the Top 5 includes a pair of Blake Shelton Albums (Based On A True Story, Cheers, It’s Christmas) and the latest albums from Luke Bryan at #2 and Florida Georgia Line #3. FGL’s album should jump to the top slot with their Deluxe Edition of the album coming out. Danielle Bradbery’s self-titled album likely will appear here as well.
Lady Antebellum Place Golden Deluxe and On This Winter’s Night in the Top 10. Scotty McCreery, Taylor Swift & Jason Aldean Return To Top 10
This week’s second-half of the Top 10 is a robust one that gets kick-started by Lady Antebllum’s Golden/Golden Deluxe and On This Winter’s Night both selling 8,000 copies. Both albums have now scanned just-under 500k and are both likely to surpass that number this upcoming Holiday gift-giving season. The trio’s albums are already certified Gold or eligible to be certified by the RIAA. Taylor Swfit’s RED returns to the Top 10 after a few week’s absence while the same can be said for both Jason Aldean and Scotty McCreery’s latest albums Night Train and See You Tonight respectively. See You Tonight has sold over 105k in six weeks on the chart.
Trace Adkins, Kelly Carkson and Scotty McCreery Christmas Albums among notable albums this week, as is Darius Rucker’s True Believers album.
Thomas Rhett’s It Goes Like This, Kellie Pickler’s The Woman I Am and Toby Keith’s Drinks After Work all place on this week’s notable list while Trace Adkins’ The King’s Gift (a traditional Christmas album) scores a remarkable 77% sales increase this week to jump 73 slots on the Top 200 Albums sales chart. right behind Trace in our rundown is Darius Rucker with True Believers. The album has sold over 400k to date and is now less than 100k away from becoming yet another Gold album in his solo career arsenal. Scotty McCreery’s Christmas With Scotty was certified Gold by the RIAA last year and no doubt it should figure out a way to surpass that sales number this year. Zac Brown Band’s Uncaged gets profiled for being nearly Platinum while Brandy Clark makes her return to the Top 200 chart with her buzzworthy 12 Stories. FInally, we look at the sorta country, mostly pop Christmas album from Kelly Clarkson. Wrapped In Red has now sold 199k and is the second-best-selling all-new for 2013 Christmas album behind the Robertson Family.
