Country Album Chart News: The Week of January 2, 2013: Garth Brooks, Duck Dynasty, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery & Scotty McCreery
By: Matt Bjorke
Garth Brooks is now one month into holding down the #1 slot on the Top 10 Country Albums Sales chart this week. Duck Dynasty’s fans ensure their Christmas album remains a hot seller too.
The Christmas shopping season is now over and while the Digital Sales charts for this week and next will reflect the gift cards for iTunes and other digital stores, The Top 10 Country albums chart this week mostly showcases sales decreases with only two days of pre-Christmas sales to account for. Still, the top 5 is virtually unchanged from last week with Garth Brooks 8 disc (6 CD, 2 DVD) box set Blame It All On My Roots selling another 90k copies to bring the sales number up to 771k in 5 weeks. This means that the Box set is now at least going to be 4x Platinum (just for CDs, not DVDs) If you add all the discs, the set is now 6x Platinum elegible but likely will certify at 8 million as Walmart bought at least that many from Garth brooks. If you figure Garth Brooks’s company made say 20.00 off of each box set, then he’s guarnateed to have made $15.4 million of this project alone (but with costs to create the sets with recordings and royalties for songwriters, etc, the actual tally is a lot less than that. Still, it’s a nice haul for an artist who proves that compelling physical product still will fly off the shelves and into the arms/hands of fans. Imagine what an all-new album will do when one likely comes out for Christmas shopping this new year.
#2 on the chart is Duck The Halls, the Robertson Family’s Christmas record. Likely a RIAA Platinum-eligible recording, the album has scanned 750k and should easly move past the 1 million mark by the end of the 2014 shopping season (unless the show isn’t popular by the, which we doubt). Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party sits at #3 this week with sales of 53k added to his coiffers, giving Luke over 1.5 million albums scanned, a number which the #4 album from Florida Georgia Line (Heres To The Good Time...This Is How We Roll) has crossed as well. Rounding out the Top 5 is Lady Antebellum with their Gold-certified Golden album. The album features “Compass,” “Goodbye Town” and the #1 hit “Downtown.”
Blake Shelton, Danielle Bradbery, Scotty McCreery, lead Second half of Top 10 Country Albums for The Week of January 2, 2014.
Once again Blake Shelton’s inside this week’s Top 10 Country Albums but with Christmas over, his Yuletide album (along with Scotty McCreery’s and Lady Antebellum’s) has disappeared from our rundown. All three albums are certified Gold by the RIAA. Shelton’s latest album Based On A True Story… has sold 1.1 million copies to date (40 weeks on this chart). Next is Taylor Swift’s 4x Platinum album RED; which has scanned 3.96 million copies to date. Jason Aldean’s 63 week-old Night Train has moved 1.55 million copies to date and sits at #8. Next we find two young TV Singing Show champions in Scotty McCreery and Danielle Bradbery rounding out the Top 10 with their albums. Scotty has now sold 178k copies of his sophomore See You Tonight album while Danielle Bradbery has moved closer to 100k scanned (she’s just under at 97k this week) for her self-titled Big Machine/Republic album release.
The 10 Notables include Cassadee Pope’s debut Frame By Frame, and the latest albums from Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Darius Rucker!
Carrie Underwood takes part in two albums in this 10 disc rundown the first one -- the Sound of Music soundtrack for the TV performance -- surpassed the 100k scanned mark while her most-recent album -- Blown Away -- has sold over 1.6 million copies to date. The star is said to be working on the follow-up to that album. Keith Urban’s already on the third album from 263k seller Fuse, after the #1 hits “Little Bit Of Everything” and “We Were Us” (both Gold certified). “Cop Car” is the single and it’s sure to join the others as big hits for the veteran star from Austraila. Jake Owen’s Days Of Gold has sold 78k in 4 weeks on the charts, a good mark for an album with a title track which failed to hit the Top 10 -- thus breaking his 4 song #1 single streak. The rising star looks to gain momentum with “Beachin’,” his upcoming single from the album. Other notables include Justin Moore’s Off The Beaten Path and Cassadee Pope’s Frame By Frame. Moore has sold 224k of his third album while Pope’s up to 141k with her debut album. As a side note, Kelly Clarkson finshed 2013 with the best-selling Christmas album (Wrapped In Red) with over 760k sold for the album, just out-selling The Robertson Family’s Duck The Halls.
