Chris Young - "Gettin' You Home (Black Dress Song)"
By: Matt Bjorke
Last year James Otto had the year's smoldering, sexy "Just Got Started Lovin' You" and that song not only was his break-through hit but it also was 2008's most-played single. Now while I won't go as far as to say Chris Young's "Getting You Home" will be 2009's most played single but it sure does feel like a big smash hit single. It is smoldering, sexy and just plain damn good. The melody harkens back to classic George Strait songs while Young's strong baritone deliver words that will melt any woman's heart.
Why Chris Young isn't a star vocalist yet is beyond me as he's consistently delivered great singles since winning Nashville Star nearly four years ago. RCA Records has shown remarkable patience in trying to break Young into a superstar act, something that hasn't happened in recent years. It's refreshing to see a label stick behind one of their talented artists, even after their debut album failed to not only score a hit single but it didn't sell as well as the label hoped. In fact, one would've guessed that the goodwill earned by Young while on Nashville star would've faded by now at the label, particularly after "Voices" stalled on the charts. Still, RCA has released "Getting You Home" to radio and I'm particularly happy they have because it's one of the best singles released to radio so far this year.

It's funny that Black dresses seem to be the craze. A canadian singer came out with a song called little black dress at the beginning of summer. His name is Jerry Sereda I think. Check it out.

I also have noticed that there seems to be a bias against those Nashville Star winners. I just don't understand it. Does anyone else have any idea why that would be? Chris has a great song, and I really wish he had a chance. What is the problem???

The previous comments show why RCA is sticking with Chris, because the ladies just love this guy! Top 40 country radio seems to have an inherent bias against Nashville Star winners/contestants, unlike American Idol alumni. Every time a non-established artist releases a new single to radio the odds of it getting played go down if their previous singles didn't chart well as radio sees them as non-starters. Chris and RCA made a huge mistake when Chris' rushed debut album was so weak and full of filler fluff. This new single is a fine song that WOULD surely be a huge hit IF Top 40 country radio embraces it, and sadly that's not likely. I hope I'm wrong this time...

I’ve been a big fan of both George Strait and Chris Young so it was great seeing your comparison. I’ve been supporting Chris since Nashville Star and must say that “Gettin’ You Home” is a favorite song of mine. The first time I heard him sing this I just about melted, so I am glad to see you think this song is special too! RCA believes in Chris… We believe in Chris…now if only RADIO would believe and play his song!!!

I really appreciate the comparison to George Strait. On many occasions, Chris has said George is one of his heros. I am in agreement with this review...this song will be a big hit, cause it's a great song and Chris is huge talent. RCA believes in him, that's why they stick with him. Plain and simple. Let's hope radio believes, cause apparently his label and his fans do.

I couldn't agree with you more! This new single from Chris Young is HOT! I heard him play this summer of 2007 and I thought, "This is gonna be a HUGE hit for Chris!!!" I'm so excited it is being played on the radio now! Can't wait to watch it climb the charts! :)
