Chely Wright Comes Out

Chely Wright, the award-winning singer/songwriter behind such hits like "Sea of Cowboy Hats," "It Was," "Jezebel" "The Bumper of my SUV," "Shut Up And Drive," "Never Loved You Enough" and "Single White Female," recently came out as a lesbian in an interview with People Magazine.  She said "Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.”  The singer has a new album (delayed for more than a year) called Lifted Off The Ground.

What do you think? Do you care?  Do you think the world would care more if a superstar country singer was to announce they were gay?  Does this announcement mean you won't ever listen to Chely Wright songs again?

I commend her. She wanted to earlier but a majority of country fans are very hateful. I don't think people realize how many gays are country fans. Country is not just for closed minded whites anymore.

Hmm good point, Matt. Look what happened to k.d. lang. Country music couldn't take the fact she was gay.

Kyle, It's easy to be skeptical but this album has been delayed for like over a year so perhaps it just is 'serendipitous' that it happened now. Not like announcing your gay is a good business tactic for the country community.

I totallty agree 100% with you, Katie. I don't care about singers' personal lives, I just wanna hear their music, too. What surprises me, is that this announcement just happens to be the same week as her new album is being released. Hmm? Fishy or not? You tell me.

Your question is whether we care if a "superstar country singer" is gay and I definitely would not put Chely Wright in the superstar group. Now if someone like Kenny, Tim, Alan, or Brad came out, it would have a bigger effect. But Chely Wright, who cares.

i wont listen to her music because i never have. but if i was a fan i wouldnt care. do i approve? no. but i dont approve of smoking either, and im sure lots of my favorite singers smoke. i dont care about these people's personal lives, i just wanna hear the music. stuff like this shouldn't have to be a BIG announcement.
