Caitlin & Will - "Even Now"

More often than not the pairing of strangers together, with the hopes of forming a musical duo, often leads to nowhere but when it's right, it turns out to be a musical match made in heaven. Hoping to follow in the trail of Brooks & Dunn, Caitlin & Will both made the CMT show "Can You Duet" without the partners that they started with. Like Brooks & Dunn, Caitlin & Will were brought together at the hands of other people (Can You Duet's judges in this case) and wowed the producers and judges of the show enough to win the competition. Months after the competition has been completed Caitlin & Will have released their first single for Columbia Nashville.

Written by Casey Beathard and Karyn Rochelle, "Even Now" is a song that plays on the vindictive 'get even' mentality that will crop up from time to time through the course of a relationship. People often do stupid things without thinking much and that's what is at the root of this song. Both Will and Caitlin take turns at singing the verses of the song and then blend their soulful voices together on the chorus. Caitlin has a strong, powerful voice that at times recalls Carrie Underwood while Will has a voice that recalls Tim McGraw with more range. Separately the two wouldn't stand out too much from the pack but together they make for a dynamic vocal duo. This single has enough to stand out at country radio while their talent promises that their debut album, which will be previewed by a digital EP in March, will be one to look out for.

The single is available now on iTunes.

I think Caitlin and Will are amazing together. And this song (Even Now) is the best yet. I expect great things from these two!!

I just have to say, Caitlin & Wills' Even Now duet is one of the finest duets as "any" I have seen. Straight to the heart.

I like it. I like the song, and I like the way they sing it. I hope it does well.

Rick, I think they will do just fine with that song as it is just plain good. The vocals are sharp, pure and the blend is there. The music is good, if not a little too slow in tempo . Add their personalities with it and I think you find buried treasure. I think they did a real good job of selecting their songs for the album and those songs may be that much better than Even Now and that is the dilemma. I am glad the label has taken their time with them. If you knew the order of the songs they chose and then the order that those songs were produced, you would be able to hear the progression of the amazing gift of those voices coming together. The only problem with Address and Born Again is that those songs are not duets and Caitlin and Will are a duet. I know you liked the Koppolas. Remember what they said? I paraphrase; Wait till we get to the stage, cause that is where we are really, really good. I think that is where you will find that Caitlin and Will will grab you. I was fortunate enough to see their Show Case in November. It was not perfect, but there were enough moments that had you craving for more. It was not long enough. I think they have tremendous potential. I think that you can get a sense of their depth when you listen to the words of the songs that they chose. Me? I don't really listen to words the first or fifth time I hear a song. The music grabs me first and then I get the pleasure (well, not all of the time) of understanding what the song is about. I am slow. But their diction is so good that I hear the words, too. But maybe I listen to the words cause they do a good job of conveying the meaning with their phrasing. I don't know. Maybe I am addicted to Caitlin and Will. I just love how they got they came together. What Providence! I have always loved Caitlin's voice. She can bleed a song for all it is worth. But there is something about those two voices together that really does, at times, pull emotion from me, too. I think they are really something different. I hope that the rest of the listening public thinks so, too. I really like Carrie Underwood's voice. I have only seen her perform on the awards ceremonies. Those performances have not captivated me as much as her albums have and they in turn left me a little cold. My favorite song right now is I Know You Won't. Killer compliment to Caitlin that you compare. I used to really love music in high school and college. You should see my vinyl collection! My friend and I used to go up to a little bar in Baltimore called No Fish Today every Tuesday nite and listen to the locals play bluegrass. Fine times....even sang with them a time or two, when I paid em (just kidding). Well, enough waxing. Just enjoy.

This song choice is a big potential mistake. Will has a nice voice, like a low intensity Travis Tritt, but Caitlin in comparison has an absolutely killer voice. Caitlin sounds like a cross between Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert whose voice is nicer than those two because she lacks Carrie's nasal whineiness. On their MySpace site I would choose between "Address In The Stars", "Born Again", or "Dark Horse" as the debut single and shelve "Even Now". I would like to know what dyed in the wool C&W fans think of this choice as I've never really listened before. I still feel Sarah Buxton should have picked "There You Go" over "Space" as her current single and feel just as strongly that "Even Now" is not an optimal launching pad. I do wish them luck though as Caitlin's vocal talent is undeniable.
