Brad Paisley - Old Alabama (Featuring Alabama)

The first thing to say about Brad Paisley’s new song “Old Alabama” is that it sounds really good.  Melodically it is familiar as you’d expect with parts of the song coming straight from, well old Alabama songs but the chorus actually features a melody that feels more “Sweet Home Alabama” a-la Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long.” Lyrically, the song isn’t too different from Brad Paisley’s other songs in that it’s theme is about a woman who is like, the biggest Alabama fan ever.

The song features the three main members of Alabama (Randy Owen, Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry) and that alone helps the nostalgia factor of “Old Alabama” but Paisley’s own voice works well singing these types of down-home southern charmers and while lyrics could probably be better, in the end, what this song really is is a four minute tribute to Alabama’s legendary country tunes from the 1980s with cleverly intertwined song titles like “Dixieland Delight,” “Right Time of the Night,” “Feels So Right” and “Love in the First Degree.”

This isn’t the first time an artist has made a new song out of using old song titles but with an artist who is quite reverential to the artists that blazed the trail before him, Brad Paisley smartly includes Alabama in the song here, thus ensuring that not only will he likely have one of 2011’s summer anthems but that he’ll also have a song that will be a contender for vocal event award nominations (and likely wins) come award season.

After the slight disappointment of “This Is Country Music,” this song is much more of a return to form for Brad Paisley that sounds, as Mr. Food says “ooh, it’s so good!”

Lyrics: "Old Alabama"

I could be the girl in the song, I was on the cusp of being an Alabama groupie.Does anybody know what song title this article refers to "right time of the night"? I know it was the 8o's, but how did I miss a whole song?

I love the song. No one will ever beat the great vocals of Alabama (Jeff, Randy & Teddy} Mark was a cool drummer but did not sing on their music.

Elvis Fan, I know Mark Herndon was in the band from the beginning. The only reason I said "main" people is that he's severed from the stuff Dale mentioned above your post. He's a fantastic drummer and is currently working with Fort Payne's own Leah Seawright.

Alabama as a live band will always be remembered as Randy, Teddy, Jeff and Mark. Mark has and always will be a part of Alabama in the minds of the fans. That being said, the only album that Mark played the drums on was the live albums and cuts. He was not the studio drummer for Alabama. Sad but true. also, as a corporation, Alabama is only Randy, Teddy and Jeff.

Why do you consider those three to be the "main" members of Alabama? I think there were (at least until recently) 4 inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Jason Aldean said on tv one night that the drummer was the coolest. So, give credit where credit is due...

Did you just say you were "slightly disappointed" with "This is Country Music"?????How is that possible???? THAT was an amazing song!!! And I haven't heard one negative word said about it... before now... I DO love this new single too!!
