Brad Paisley - "Anything Like Me"

If there’s only one word to describe Brad Paisley, ‘consistent’ is the word that comes to mind.  From the beginning of his career in 1999 to the release of American Saturday Night a decade later, Brad Paisley has gained an audience by delivering solid hits that touch on humor, love and life.  Sure, American Saturday Night’s “Welcome To The Future” touched on the pulse of America a bit more than previous Paisley tunes but it, too injected his smart songwriting.

This tune, which is on American Saturday Night is also now being coined as “the debut single from a very special hits collection” by Arista Records, which would be the first such collection (outside of the ‘Playlist’ budget hits set) from Brad Paisley.  With 17 #1s, 13 CMA Awards, 13 ACM Awards, 3 Grammys® and over 11 million albums sold, it’s hard to argue with the timing of the hits collection.  Fans have probably been clamoring for such an album as a way to get all or most of the essential hits of the first 12 years of Brad’s career on one album.

As far as “Anything Like Me” goes, it’s a track that features a charming and self-aware lyric about Brad’s own childhood and how his son’s gonna grow up and probably do the same mistakes and things that Brad ended up doing.  The melody is meat and potatoes modern-traditional (isn’t this an oxymoron?) with a vocal that delivers exactly what fans have come to expect from Brad Paisley.  Heartfelt, humorous at times, “Anything Like Me” feels exactly what we’d want to hear from Brad Paisley.  While it’s entirely ‘safe,’ it will definitely be a massive hit for him with radio, something that would probably happen even if he included a ‘reggae’ breakdown in a single.
