What We Learn from the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums charts this week:

  • Country music had 11 of the Top 33 albums this week which is 1/3 of the tally.
  • Of the Top 80 albums, country music owned 1/4 of the chart as well with 20 records.
  • Luke Bryan keeps the #1 country album in the USA in the hands of Capitol Records/EMI Records Nashville with 145,000-plus scanned at retail.
  • Eric Church sells nearly 40,000 more copies of Chief and has sold over 235,000 copies in three weeks.
  • Jason Aldean sold nearly as much as Church to put his record to nearly 1.7 million sold
  • Brad Paisley has sold over 420,000 copies of This is Country Music.
  • Justin Moore has sold nearly 200,000 copies of Outlaws Like Me.
  • The Band Perry has now sold over 700,000 copies of The Band Perry.
  • Chris Young’s sold nearly 150,000 copies of Neon.
  • Zac Brown Band has three albums selling remarkably well this week, the #5 You Get What You Give, the #13 The Foundation and in our interesting albums rundown, Pass The Jar…Zac Brown Band and Friends.
  • Kenny Chesney sold more CDs this week than last week and has now sold 916,000 copies of Hemingway’s Whiskey.
  • Lady Antebellum continues to sell copies of Need You Now but will lose the title of Best-selling country album released in 2010 to Taylor Swift’s Speak Now in the next week or two (with 7,000 copies separating them and Swift).
  • Lauren Alaina gained a 2% sales increase over last week’s sales and now has sold nearly 60,000 copies of her EP as “Like My Mother Does” finally hits Top 40 (and has a sweet new video too).
  • Average Joe’s Entertainment’s Kevin Fowler debuts at #19 with Chippin’ Away.
  • The interesting albums chart starts off with a look into The Civil Wars Barton Hollow. It has now sold 160,000 copies and given the band’s buzz, it might help them get a lot of Grammy Award nominations.
  • Sugarland’s The Incredible Machine  gained in sales this week, a feat joined by Thompson Square as well.
  • Texas act Micky And The Motor Cars Raise My Glass debuts at #187 on the SoundScan Top 200 Current Albums chart this week.
  • Next week check back to see where Eli Young Band debuts. We expect an 80-100,000 sales week for them as their profile is very similar to Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Chris Young’s with Gold selling singles and lots of grassroots fan interaction.

Shirley and Cronek, Our chart rundown is the Current Top 200 Albums, not the Billboard 200. Once the album stays off the Top 200 Current Albums chart for a while, it no longer is featured as "Current" both of Taylor's old album (and Lady A's first one) had fallen off at one point, thus they're lack of appearance here.

I was just wondering why they never highlight Taylor Swift debut and Fearless since they are both still on the BB200. She has three albums on that BB200 chart. At first I thought it was because three would be a bit much to list but then I see three albums of ZZB represented so that can't be it.
