46th Annual ACM Awards ZinePak: A Magazine and CDs!
By: Matt Bjorke
From things like the iPod, the kindle to the iPad, I always get excited when I learn of fun and innovative products. And while ZinePak is a decidedly ‘old school’ product in that it is a packaged Magazine with CDs, the ZinePak product nonetheless is an exciting, fun and innovative product. Packaged to celebrate the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards that takes place on Sunday April 3, 2011, the nearly 100 page ZinePak is a magazine with a collector’s like quality to the pages and content inside. In many ways it is like the official program for the award show and in addition to profiles of Entertainer of the Year nominees Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert, the ZinePak features profiles of other nominees and 13 of country music’s up-and-coming stars.
This exciting package includes a CD with 11 tracks from the nominees – kinda like the Grammy-specific compilation for that award show – has “Mine” from Taylor Swift, “Somewhere Else” from Toby Keith, “Without You” from Keith Urban, “Airstream Song” from Miranda Lambert,” “Country Boy’s World” from Jason Aldean, “Quittin’ You” from The Band Perry, “The Way Love Looks” from Easton Corbin, “Shotgun Girl” from the Jane Dear girls, “Here With Me” from Randy Houser, “Edge of Goodbye” from Steel Magnolia and the live version of “Water” from Brad Paisley. This CD alone would make the $7.00 Walmart-exclusive ZinePak worth getting but when you add in the bonus 13 track CD with “Country Music’s Brightest New Stars,” it’s a downright steal.
In fact, the second disc in this set features eight of the thirteen tunes on a CD for the very first time (Josh Kelley’s album Georgia Clay comes out the same day). Those tracks available on CD for the first time include Ashton Shepherd’s scorchin’ hot hit “Look It Up,” Walker Hayes’ addictively melodic “Why Wait For Summer,” Troy Olsen’s “Good Hands,” Randy Montana’s Top 40 hit “1,000 Faces,” The Harters “If I Run,” Jennette McCurdy’s just-released radio single “Generation Love” and Tyler Farr’s “Camouflage.” Sunny Sweeney, who is fresh off of a Top 10 hit with “From A Table Away” is featured with a previously unavailable track called “It Wrecks Me.” The set is rounded out by Christian Kane’s “The House Rules,” Dave Barnes soulful “God Gave Me You” and the “Family Man” from Craig Campell with the Top 5 Gold-selling smash “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” the most well-known of the songs in this set.
So when you add up the fantastic, well-written and produced 5x7 glossy 100 page magazine, two great CDs and an affordable $7 price tag, what we have here is a win for fans of contemporary mainstream country music. As an added bonus there’s a chart where you can pick your favorites amongst the nominees and some cool post cards you can use as invites to ACM viewing parties or just a dang cool souvenir and/or collector’s item. Here’s hoping there are more and more exciting ZinePaks in the future as this Walmart-excluive ZinePak celebrating the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards is a great start.
