In the Song “I'll Pray for You” by Jaron and the Long Road to Love, a boyfriend sings a spiteful break-up song to his girlfriend. The song starts out sweet, and you might think that he is going to be singing about forgiveness. In the first verse he says: So I listened to the preacher as he told me what to do/.../sometimes we get angry, but we must not condemn. (3,5). As the song goes on you realize that he is only talking about hurting his ex-girlfriend. The second verse starts by saying: I pray your brakes go out running down a hill/I pray a flowerpot falls from a window sill and knocks you in the head like I'd like to (7,8).The tone of this song might be called elegiac. While at first you might not think he is mourning, the more you think about it, the more you realize that he is hurting. This is his way of dealing with his hurt. This whole song is written as an hyperbole. I would think he literally doesn't want these things to happen to her, but is rather exaggerating. I wouldn't think he would “wish all of [her] dreams never come true.” (11) He wrote this song after breaking up with an ex who was cheating on him He probably felt betrayed and wanted a way to let out his anger. He was most likely hurting. He felt he she had done him wrong, and wanted to get back at her for what she had done to him. The song I'll Pray for You is very influenced by the post modern world. One reason it is post modern is because the world is not living up to his standards. In this particular case his ex-girlfriend not what he thought she was, not meeting his standards. This song is very much focused on his surface feelings. It is displaying how him as an individual feels. Also he is singing about deconstruction and criticizing. The song I'll pray for you became popular through country music, but also has a pop feel to it. Jaron Lowenstein started out as a pop artist singer. Him and his twin brother had a top 20 song called “Crazy for this Girl.” He would still consider himself a pop artist. Jaron himself says that “country went pop.” By saying this he is saying that he hasn't gone country, but rather that country music has changed. His is with handful of other bands that have moved into country music. These people include: Darius Rucker, Jon Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, and Jessica Simpson. His song has a country feel to it because he through a bango into the mix, and because it tells a story. The beat to the song is still mostly pop.

For my ex-husband, the roomates that have screwed me over and stolen from me, the a-hole that cut me off, anyone that has done me wrong. I don't hate them. Hatered is an angry, dangerous and exhausting emotion. I just pray for them. AMEN

FANTASTIC!!! I heard this as I was driving down the street and it put me in such a good mood. I don't care how Christian you are, we have all had thoughts like these but we know better than to act on them. I think this is a great, light-hearted song - keep up the great work Jaron. P,S. For those die-hard Christians just keep to your Christian radio stations and then you won't have to worry about being offended.

A great and fun song. I am a very conservative Christian and for those who have a problem with this song should get over it. Not everything has to be mega serious. Enjoy this song.... I am!

I agree that this song sounds good, has a clever lyric, and is something a lot of people related to...everyone's imperfect and has probably thought something bad toward others. That said, there's one reason why I will not listen to this song when it comes on the radio--it makes a mockery of praying for others, something I take extremely seriously. Some people will say it is meant as a joke, which I agree with. I do not think Jaron wrote this song to disrespect Christians, it probably was just something that kicked around in his head for a while. However, personally I don't like the joke. I will not condemn Jaron and call him evil or any bad names, I will just simply turn the radio dial if the song comes on again, something I haven't had to do since it fell off the charts. I do look forward to hearing his next single only because I want to be able to hear him sing something I could stand to listen to.

People who mention this is not very Christian like are not true Christians or they would know not to judge. The song was in jest. Everyone who was ever wronged had feelings like those in the song. Maybe not the exact ones. Unless your pure at heart you have had bad thoughts. Now all you who claim to be Christan and passed judgement on this song need to REPENT

rennie1010, Thank God you know your bible. as for waytt, he might need to brush up on his scriptures. I remember Jesus remarking that the greatest command is to love your neighbor as yourself. and both dixie and waytt would do well to read the scriptures you quoted. I hope and pray that there are other songs similar to this one. Lord knows the whole country could use a good laugh during these times. Keep it up Jaron, kudos to you!

While reading feedback on this song, it came to me that in the New Testament, Jesus said, "judge not, lest ye be judged in like mannor". This song rocks, love it, laughed till I cried. I've watched various videos for it and the one I love the most is the one featuring Jamie Pressly. And if the so called Christians that have spoken against this song, witnessed only one half of the miracles that God has done in my life, it would blow their minds. The God that loves me says He wants joy in my life and this song gave me joy to listen to it. Get a grip people, if God didn't have a sense of humor, He wouldn't have created humanity. And this is coming from one that truly knows and has a personal relationship with God. God Bless you all, and thank God for this young man that has entertained ALL of us so well!!!!!!!!!!!!

well i think this song covers all those feelings we have tward people who have wrong us..I think its healthy to have the thoghts but not so healthy to carry them out. This song just shows us that its fine to have the feels we feel when we are wrong and just how much better we feel when we get it off our chest. IT'S A MUST HAVE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been with my husband for over 12 years. Apparently my friend or ex-friend has been with him for only about a year or so. Heard this song the week I found out.I am taking the high road and would not wish that on my children s father but the song does make me think of him when I hear it. We can all appreciate the lyrics and the thought process behind it. Quit whining and just enjoy the song.

I think this song is a fun, goofy, day brightening representation of what people really think about people who do them wrong. I am a christian and I can say I have these thoughts. Do I really want those things to happen, NO, but it makes you feel a little better when you feel wronged to think it for a moment, it's no big deal unless you act on it or are serious about it.

Shelley says:

I absolutely love this song!!! It's my X-husband's ring tone. and well a few other people too! Great job on hitting this one on the head. It's not meant to be religious just entertainment. Take it for what it is and laugh your a$$ off, send it to the ones you think need it... and say a prayer!
